Give up on this button and find a button with a better message.
Get your education, graduate from high school, and go to college to practice your liberal activities.

Did anon. above me just admit that freedom of speech is solely a liberal value?
Don't give in, Carrie. People have your back. No turning around now.

I disagree with the person above. Practice your liberal acitivities now, that way they'll be perfect when you get to college.
For freedom and justice, there's no time like the present.

not free speech issue

I don't think this is an issue of free speech at all.
What is at issue is that if I saw "I (heart) my vagina" on a button, I would not think of female genital mutilation. That button does not address the prevention of female genital mutilation as addressed in the Vagina Monologues. If she wore such a button, I don't think that it would be so controversial among staff and administration at the high school.
Carrie is young and doesn't understand the consequences of the message today. Hopefully, someone doesn't misinterpret that button, which I think could easily be done, and harm her. That is my concern.

Sweetie (anons of all stripes) the issue is not, as far as I can tell, female genital mutilation, it's the basic right of every human being to bodily integrity, to love their bodies and not to be ashamed of them or to pretend they don't exist.
So a woman who acknowledges, publically, that she has a vagina and doesn't hate it or feel ashamed of it is inviting violence? What the hell is wrong with you? Carrie understands the consequences of the message just fine. This idea that it is dangerous for a woman publically acknowledging that she _has_ a female body...
I love my vagina and support yours.

The National Youth Rights Association firmly supports your right to free speech. The supreme court ruled in Tinker V Des Moines that the constitution is not suspended in schools, your principal is clearly not firmiliar with this ruling. Good luck and God bless,

Are you wearing all going to be wearing the shirts another day? A group of people at my school are interested in wearing pins or shirts on the same day as the People in Winona... but we woulnt be able to organize it so quickly.
